An update to the Kitimat municipal budget

The April 7, 2025 Council meeting saw the municipal budget continue forward.

From here the budget progresses to the preparation of the annual financial bylaws which will be presented in the weeks ahead.

From the April 7 Notes from Council summary, here are the budget-specific items:

  • Council adopted the Water Rates Amendment Bylaw. This bylaw raises the water rate flat fee on property tax notices in a phased approach. On this year’s property tax notice, residents will notice a $10.25 increase from the prior year. Property tax notices in 2026 will reflect the final increase under this bylaw, bringing the total annual rate to $205.
  • The residential flat tax will increase 5.5 per cent, rising $40 to a total of $763.
  • The overall property tax rate bylaw will also reflect a 5.5 per cent increase.
