The District of Kitimat, together with the Kitimat Chamber of Commerce, is looking into the feasibility of an outdoor market space in the downtown area.

While there are seasonal markets that pop-up in Kitimat's core through the summer months, the purpose of this study is to consider the idea of a purpose-built market area that would exist year-round.

This study is funded thanks to a grant from the Rural Economic Diversification and Infrastructure Program (REDIP).

Background

In 2023, the District of Kitimat approved a five-year Economic Development Strategic Plan aiming to foster vibrant public spaces, revitalize commercial areas and encourage investment.

Among the action items of the report included considering the development of an outdoor market space in Kitimat.

Now, this study will look at such a market's feasibility, potential sites, market assessment and concept designs.

The key goals of the outdoor market are to:

  • Attract more traffic to downtown Kitimat and better support downtown businesses.
  • Help revitalize and enliven the downtown core.
  • Enhance business entrepreneurship.
  • Attract investment and enhance tourism.
  • Survey for the public

Here is where you can provide your input on the idea of an outdoor market.

People who would be customers of a market or people who would be a vendor of a market are both encouraged to fill this survey out.

    Survey for prospective market vendors

If you are someone who potentially could be a vendor at a future market-space in Kitimat, please fill out this survey to help us further understand the feasibility of this idea.
