The District of Kitimat, together with the Kitimat Chamber of Commerce, is looking into the feasibility of an outdoor market space in the downtown area.
While there are seasonal markets that pop-up in Kitimat's core through the summer months, the purpose of this study is to consider the idea of a purpose-built market area that would exist year-round.
This study is funded thanks to a grant from the Rural Economic Diversification and Infrastructure Program (REDIP).
Background
In 2023, the District of Kitimat approved a five-year Economic Development Strategic Plan aiming to foster vibrant public spaces, revitalize commercial areas and encourage investment.
Among the action items of the report included considering the development of an outdoor market space in Kitimat.
Now, this study will look at such a market's feasibility, potential sites, market assessment and concept designs.
