What happens after demolition?
Work is happening to bridge the existing Nechako Centre Concept Plan (see other tab) to a realized, developed site.
In October, the District of Kitimat planning department was directed by Council to issue an RFP to find a consultant to create a development plan for this property.
While the concept plan took community input to determine what type of services or amenities residents want to see at this property, a development plan means taking a closer look at what steps need to be taken to realize those concepts. This can include things such as looking at utilities, services, the technical considerations of the ground, and how development may impact surrounding land users.
Nechako Centre Concept Plan
Nechako Centre is located within the Nechako neighbourhood and is accessible from Kingfisher Avenue. It used to be a popular and well used commercial area but has seen a noticeable decline in the commercial uses offered since the late 70s and early 80s. In 2021, the District of Kitimat hired a consultant to complete a market assessment and concept plan for Nechako Centre. The assessment and plan were completed in the end of 2022 and was presented to Council on December 5, 2022.
With the concept plan completed, the District is looking towards the creation of a development plan that will take the concept plans to the next stage.
What are the concepts
The concept plan is thorough, but here are some of the visions for Nechako Centre as outlined in the plan. Refer to the full concept plan for more details and other visions.
