ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION NOTICE NOTICE OF INTENT TO ISSUE OPERATIONAL CERTIFICATE 112646 UNDER THE PROVISIONS OF THE ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT ACT

Take notice that the Director intends, a minimum of 30 days after the date of publication of this notice, to issue OPERATIONAL CERTIFICATE (OC) 112646 to the District of Kitimat for the existing Kitimat Landfill located at 6.5 km from Kitimat on the west side of Highway 37. OC 112646 will supercede Permit 3608.

The draft OC authorizes the management of waste at the Kitimat Landfill and is in accordance with the approved RDKS Solid Waste Management Plan and proposes:

• No increase to the existing landfill footprint area,

• A small increase to the yearly waste discharge tonnage, and,

• General updates to improve clarity and consistency with current ministry landfill authorizations and technical criteria for landfills.

The draft OC is available on the District of Kitimat’s and the Regional District of Kitimat- Stikine’s websites at:

Within 30 days after the date of publication of this notice, any person may send comments to the Director, respecting the requirements of the draft OC, via email, with the subject line referencing authorization 112646, to: envcia@gov.bc.ca and with a copy to the District of Kitimat at: engineering@kitimat.ca .

The identity of any respondents and the contents of anything submitted in relation to the application will become part of the public record
