An update on the Kitimat Spray Park project

7 May 2025

With the annual budget nearly adopted and some recent groundwork taking place, it was felt that it would be a good time to update the public on the spray park project.

The spray park is currently in a design phase, which includes how it will look to users and how it will connect to utilities along with other engineering considerations to install it.

On May 6 there was some excavation work that was related to this design process at the site, which is adjacent to Tamitik Jubilee Sports Complex, and next to the Lions Playground.

The 2025 municipal budget has allocated funds to this design phase for this year, and it is anticipated the budget to construct the spray park will be presented for Council's direction in the fall for the 2026 our next budget deliberations.

A look at this project’s history:

  • Council is presented a petition to create a spray park in late 2022.
  • Possible locations are presented for Council's consideration, and direction is made by Council in early 2023 to pursue a feasibility study for the Lions Park playground area.
  • In September 2024, Council receives the feasibility study and directs for public engagement on design and other considerations.
  • A public engagement survey received more than 500 submissions on look and other considerations for the spray park which would be adjacent to Lions Park.
  • These results are referred as part of consideration for budget approval for the engineering and design of the spray park.

Information on this project, its location and history is on the spray park's Get Involved Kitimat page here.
