What's happening now with the Kitimat Spray Park

20 March 2026

Earlier, we had shared that discussion for Kitimat’s Spray Park had been referred to the 2027 budget. That meant that Council would decide next year how to proceed with the project.

While that referral did pass, Council has since opted to re-introduce the spray park back into the 2026 budget.

On March 16, Council re-approved for consideration in the budget the spray park, at $2.25 million. The District will also approach LNG Canada and TC Energy for potential financial support in the spray park’s construction.

Council further directed that the spray park will continue to be funded from money provided through the Northwest BC Resource Benefits Alliance. This is money that has been provided to a number of northern communities from the Province of B.C., including to Kitimat. The funding also supports a number of other programs and initiatives in the community.

Council will be reviewing the full budget and financial plan later this month, and the budget is expected to be adopted by May 4, 2026.

Due to the required lead-time from equipment providers, the spray park being reintroduced into the 2026 budget does not necessarily mean its construction would take place this year. It is possible that the spray park would not be completed until Summer 2027.
