The Water Treatment Upgrade for Kitimat has been proceeding at a great pace since beginning in March.

Last week, the main level concrete slab was poured, and installation of underground utilities will be in progress this month.

In September you may notice dramatic changes as the steel building structure will start getting installed. That work will finish in November.

While the commissioning of the new water plant won’t be until later next year, we have been making great steps towards completing the building.

Once complete, this plant will modernize Kitimat’s water treatment processes. At the same time, it will dramatically reduce the number of water quality advisories the community may experience due to turbidity in the Kitimat River, which typically happens in the spring and fall when there is a high amount of rain.
